Expedited Permitting Process: Palisades

How the Rebuilding Permit Process Will Work:

Step 1: Visit the Disaster Recovery Permitting Center

  • A special office in the fire-affected area will have representatives from all key departments, including:

    • Department of Building and Safety (LADBS)

    • Department of Water and Power

    • City Planning Department

    • Public Works

    • Fire Department

    • Housing Department

Step 2: Submit Your Plans for a Fast-Tracked Permit

  • If your rebuild meets the “Eligible Project” criteria (like-for-like or up to 110% of the original home), it will be processed under the streamlined, ministerial review process (no hearings or extra approvals needed).

Step 3: Get Your Initial Permit Review Within 30 Days (Unlikely, but the Mayor says this is the case)

  • Your building permit application must be reviewed within 30 days.

  • All city departments must review and approve permits at the same time, not one after another, to avoid delays.

Step 4: Start Rebuilding Immediately

  • You don’t need to wait for additional environmental or zoning approvals if rebuilding a similar home.

  • Once construction starts, inspections will be scheduled within two business days.

Step 5: Live in Temporary Housing if Needed

  • If you choose to live on your property in an RV, tiny home, or mobile home, you don’t need a special permit and can stay for up to three years or until your rebuild is complete.

What This Means for You as a Homeowner

Faster Rebuilding – No extra environmental reviews or city approvals required.
Simple Permitting – A one-stop center will process all approvals in 30 days.
Flexibility in Rebuilding – You can restore your home as it was or slightly bigger without delays.
Live on Your Property – You can place an RV or mobile home on-site while rebuilding.
Debris Removal Handled – The city is coordinating cleanup so you can rebuild safely.

This executive order removes major barriers to rebuilding after the fire and ensures you can return home as quickly as possible.
